Leadership Team Bios:
Adam Newsome (CEO)
Adam got his start in the transportation business when he began dispatching at the age of 16. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1996, and spent the following summer assisting Mike Boone and Wes Newsome with the founding of Lazer Spot. That fall, he went to the University of Tennessee School of Law, where he graduated in 1999.
After a three-year stint in private practice, Adam joined Lazer Spot as President in 2003. He was named Chief Operating Officer in 2012 and Chief Executive Officer in 2014. The company has grown from 100 to 2,000 employees, and from 50 to 900 power units, during his tenure. Adam developed the systems and policies that allowed Lazer Spot to become more accountable in the areas of DOT compliance, financial reporting, and customer metrics tracking. He is committed to continuing the company’s growth progression, while retaining the close connections to customers and employees that have made Lazer Spot the premiere spotting company in the country.
David Brazeal (CFO)
David joined Lazer Spot in 2016. He has over 30 years of financial leadership experience with high growth service companies. Prior to joining Lazer Spot, he served as Chief Financial Officer at several privately held companies in industries including oil and gas services, retail services and medical technology. David also spent 18 years at Barton Protective Services, one of the largest contract security services providers in the country, where as Executive Vice President and CFO, he led the company through a very successful sale to a private equity backed industry leader. He started his career with KPMG in Atlanta.
David is a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he earned a BBA in Accounting, and he earned his MBA from Kennesaw State University.
Phil Newsome (Chief Operating Officer)
Phil joined Lazer Spot in 2011 as Vice President of Operations. From 1996 until 2010, he was Executive Vice President and part owner of Morristown Driver’s Service, Inc. Phil earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee, and had also worked in management roles with Dockside, LLC, an import/export distribution center; KPT, Inc., an equipment and land holding company; and Dynasty Transportation LLC, a shuttle and personal transportation company.
Phil was named executive vice president in June 2014. Phil’s experience with freight management and strategic partnerships have enabled him to effectively lead Lazer Spot’s expansion in key areas, most notably the Western U.S.
Jerry Edwards (Executive VP of Operations)
Jerry, a 20-year veteran of the transportation industry, worked for a national over-the-road trucking company for 15 years. He worked as a trainer and received numerous safety awards. He joined Lazer Spot in 2005 as site manager for Lazer Spot’s then-new site at Kimberly Clark in Beech Island, South Carolina. He was promoted to regional manager in 2007, and became the company’s first Vice President of Operations in 2009. He was named executive vice president in June 2014.
Jerry was a linchpin of Lazer Spot’s early success, growing along with the company as it expanded the number of locations and customers it served. His connections with drivers and customers have helped ensure that, while growing into a truly national operation, Lazer Spot still has a very personal commitment to its stakeholders.
Nick Kerry (VP of Operations)
Nicholas P. Kerry joined Lazer Spot in 2013 as Regional Director of Business Development in the West. Nick was later named Regional Manager for the West, and was promoted to Vice President of Operations in 2016.
Nick graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, with a concentration in Labor Economics and Industry Organization. He earned his MBA from Michigan State University with a concentration in Operations and Logistics Management. He spent 18 years with Nabisco, and received the company’s “First Choice Award” and “First and Best Award” in recognition of his successes in expense control and productivity. He then spent 7 years at Kraft Foods, where as a Regional Director of Customer Logistics, he streamlined business processes and developed key relationships with carriers and internal customers. He has worked at Havi Logistics as Manager of Industrial Engineering, and at Campbell’s Soup Company as Distribution Manager for its Sacramento facility.
Nick’s three decades of logistics experience across all functions of the transportation and warehousing industry give him insight into how customers can implement best-in-class solutions.
Bob Wright (Executive VP of Fleet Operations)
Bob joined Lazer Spot in 2015 and is leading our efforts to deliver industry leading technology, utilization and efficiency to our nationwide fleet of 3000+ trucks and trailers. Bob holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from the Stetson School of Business at Mercer University. He is a senior executive leader with a career spanning nearly thirty years in the transportation sector. He brings a broad knowledge of P&L management, operations, domestic and international business experience to our team.
He served as Vice President at Nextran Corporation, one of the nation’s largest privately held commercial truck dealer groups. He was also President and a Board Member at Mitsui Machinery, a Senior Vice President at Volvo Trucks North America, Board of Directors at Arrow Truck Sales and Vice President at Mack Trucks, Inc. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Georgia Motor Trucking Association.
Terry Bachman (VP of Safety)
Terry Bachman joined Lazer Spot in 2017 as Vice President of Safety. Terry came to Lazer Spot from Brambles/CHEP USA, where he had been Transportation Safety Systems Manager since 2015. Terry previously spent 14 years at Penske Logistics, serving at various times as Regional Manager for Health & Safety, General Manager for Operations, District Manager, and District Controller. He was formerly Materials Director and Logistics Manager for Bradley Caldwell, Inc. Terry earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance/Economics from Pennsylvania State University. He is experienced in governmental compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA, and has led initiatives focused on information technology enhancement, Six Sigma continuous improvement, and performance metric generation.
Will Rozeboom (VP of Pricing and Customer Solutions)
Will has a Business Administration degree from Brenau University and worked for Kraft Foods for nine years. When Lazer Spot was awarded the spotting contract at Kraft, Will, who worked in the transportation department, was given the task of coordinating the transition. He worked closely with the Lazer Spot team, and the company hired him in February 2002 as its first General Manager.
In 2005 Will was named Lazer Spot’s first Safety Administrator and began the formal safety program at Lazer Spot.
In 2009 he moved into his current role, where he handles pricing, new business, startup coordination and works closely with Operations on changes and needs. Because of his background in Operations, Will has particular insight into how to structure project plans to meet customer needs for safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
