Lazer Spot Acquires American Spotting Company
Alpharetta, Georgia, October 24, 2021 -- Lazer Spot, Inc. (“Lazer Spot”), a leading provider of outsourced yard management services in North America, has acquired the assets of American Spotting Company (“American”), a Saint Louis, MO-based third party logistics company. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
American, formerly part of the Gateway Family of Companies (“Gateway”), is one of the largest providers of trailer spotting and short shuttle services in the US, with locations in six states from coast to coast. Founded in 2000 by Chuck Koenig and Steve Balee, American has a strong history and has built long standing relationships with its diverse customer base by focusing on safety and customer service.
Lazer Spot CEO Adam Newsome said, “We are honored that Chuck and Steve chose Lazer Spot to carry on their company’s legacy. American has been a respected competitor in the spotting sector for years. Chuck and Steve built a remarkable company with blue-chip customers, a strong management team, and first-rate employees. We have admired their excellent reputation in the industry for a long time and look forward to integrating them into our operations to make the company even stronger going forward.”
Newsome added, “This transaction marks our third acquisition in 2021 and seventh in Lazer Spot’s history, all within the last two and a half years. By adding successful acquisitions to our strong organic growth, Lazer Spot is proving out our thesis that scale adds value to our customers. As we continue to build out and add further density in geographic markets, we are able to pool resources to provide enhanced customer service and value, especially in today’s challenging labor environment.”
Koenig will continue to lead Gateway, which includes Gateway Transportation and Gateway Warehousing. He said, “It has been my privilege to lead American for the past 21 years, and I’m proud of the team we established. I gave a lot of thought to passing the baton, because it’s important to me that our customers and team members continue to work with folks who share American’s mission and values. Like American, Lazer Spot is still led by members of its founding family, and I believe this will be an excellent cultural fit as well as a strong value proposition to the combined company’s customers. Lazer Spot is truly an industry leader in terms of their investments in technology, innovation and training, and I’m excited to see what the business will do in the future.”
Balee, who will also stay with Gateway after a transitionary period added, “By divesting our Spotting operations, we are able to better focus on our core services offering of Over The Road Transportation and Value Added Warehousing Services. Lazer Spot’s strong reputation gives us confidence that American’s customers, who will continue to be Gateway customers, are in great hands. We look forward to continuing to work with Lazer Spot on opportunities to partner across our service offerings.”
